Formerly Bangladesh was famous for its delicate and sophisticated handicrafts. But this Handicraft industry of Bangladesh remains underutilized, yet it provides a means to the country for achieving economic recovery. This quantitative grounded research was conducted to measure the relationship between handicrafts and the development of tourism and the creation of employment opportunity for rural women. The study was conducted by centering the Thanapara Swallows of Charghat, Rajshahi – a handicraft producing and exporting firm. Archival resources, documents, related studies and data from primary and secondary sources demonstrate that the relationship between handicrafts and development of tourism as well as the creation of employment for rural women is significantly positive. The finding of the study supports the main purpose of the research work. More governmental support, increased promotional measures, participation in international trade fairs etc. were recommended by the authors which are if followed could be proved beneficial for the overall development of Bangladesh.
